Super Start as 1sts and 3rds both open with strong wins

The Club made a super start to the 2007 season with wins for the 1st XI at Victoria by 10 wickets and the 3rds at Muckamore by 6 wickets. See below for a report on the 1st XI game.

The thirds result was even more encouraging for skipper Brian Clarke as the team were promoted last year and this was their first game in Division 3 Section 5. It was also good to see four of this years Under 15 side featuring among the runs and wickets-Craig Osborne,Craig Copeland,Sameer Masih and Haidir Masih.

Next weekend the 1sts are at Instonians in the Junior Cup (Saturday 5/5/07)) while the 2nds get underway with a home double header-Dundrum in the league (Sunday 6/5/07)) and Holywood in the Intermediate Cup (Monday 7/5/07).

On Friday evening (4/5/07) the Under 15s play Derriaghy in the Graham Cup at Cregagh.

The perfect 10 for the 1st XI

The 1st XI travelled to Victoria with 3 bowlers missing from their attack but managed to start the season off in style.

After a steady start by Victoria it was a run out that gave us our first breakthrough, following good work from Mark Thompson and Andrew Bligh. Wickets fell at regular intervals and were shared around the bowlers with Philip Walker taking 3 wickets, David Harris and Mark Thompson taking 2 wickets each, keeping the Victoria total down to 148.

Javed Mohammed and Ian Kerr took 28 overs to get the runs and secure a victory by 10 wickets, Javed finished on 65 and Ian reached his 50 with a boundary 4 which signalled the end of the game, and gave Ian a well deserved 50.

Youth Cricket hits 50

Youth cricket has returned to Cregagh with a bang with over 50 kids attending the first night. Tuesday nights at Cregagh has become a hive of activity attracting kids from the surrounding area.

With the Under 15s preparing for a full league and cup programme, and the under 11s playing kwik cricket, its great to see the whole ground being used. The head coach Stephen Donnelly along with his assistants, Stuart Catterson, David McCormick, Billy Campbell, Marty Ross and Steven McCormick certainly have their hands full.

If you are interested in giving cricket a go, why not come along. The session starts at 6.45 pm and runs until 8.15 pm and are held on a Tuesday night. These sessions will be run throughout the cricket season which ends in August. The under 15s have a full league programme whilst the under 11s will be arranging friendlies against local clubs, and have a cup game to look forward to. The fixtures are listed under the fixture section of the website and match reports will follow.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our 2007 playing shirts, along with a new polo t-shirt. These will be available to purchase within the next few weeks.

The new playing shirt includes the logo of our new club sponsor Tulip following on from our long standing relationship with Danepak. We hope this new sponsorship will bring us success on the field and look forward to working with them over the forthcoming season. Tulip of course also sponsor Glentoran highlighting their commitment to football and cricket in east Belfast.

The new black shirt is made from the same material as last years playing shirt with a slight change to the design.
