Captain's Blog

With the start of the season only days away it seems like a good time to make my first blog as 1st XI Captain.

First of all I would like to thank all who have contacted me to wish me well with the captaincy past players and current! Those of you who know me know how important this is to me. It is an honour to be the 1st XI captain of Cregagh and one which I hope to fully enjoy.

This year we return to Section 3 after winning Section 4 last year at the first time of asking. I would like to thank David McCormick for the excellent work he did last year as captain, I certainly have a job on my hands to emulate Davie!

On the playing front, as you will know the committee has been working very hard and I believe we have assembled as good a 1st XI squad as we have had for years. I am glad to say we have retained all out players from last year, along with Javed our top run scorer for the last 2 seasons. In addition to this we have added Richard Jarvis from South Africa. Richard is a top order batsman and qualified coach and I would like to welcome him officially to Cregagh.

In addition to this, Ryan Lang and Andrew Bell have joined us this year. Some of you will know Andrew from his time at Donaghadee, whilst Ryan is from Australia and is currently working in Belfast. Both have been impressive in preseason nets and will be of immediate benefit to Cregagh. We still have a few others in the pipeline so watch this space.

This weekend sees us start the league campaign at home to Millpark, these games have always been tight and I expect the same on Saturday. Once again a big thank you to all the committee members who ensured that the ground is ready for the season. In fact, I don't think it has ever looked this good in the middle of April!

Finally, I would like to wish good luck to all our teams this year, the 2nds under the captaincy of Phil Thompson, the 3rds with Brian Clarke as skipper and our under 15 and under 11 teams.
