1st XI season opener

With a depleted squad the 1sts travelled to Sandy bay to find the Larne ground looking great for the first game of the season.

Unfortunately, we didn't get enough runs to challenge although Paul Trimble and Billy Campbell batted well together in the middle order.

The highlight of the day was Garlic Bread! Robert Moore on his full 1st XI debut opened the bowling and did not look out of place, with his 3rd ball of senior cricket he had removed the Larne Skipper. We wont mention the age gap between the opening bowlers, suffice to say, one is old enough to drink and the other probably doesn't have his National Insurance Number yet!!!

Well done Robert, our wee club depends on bringing through this talent from our youth section, and Robert shows what can be done when you work hard and take your chance. Well done Tommy, keep up the good work.

Player Recruitment

As you know, the committee works hard during the winter months to look for new players to bolster our three weekend teams, to this end on behalf of the committee I am pleased to announce that we have secured 5 new players joining the ranks, they are;

John Stewart - Top order batsman and left arm spinner. John joins us from Carrickfergus and looks set to increase the competition within the top order of the first XI.

Andrew Brown - Andrew joins us from Dungannon where he played for their first XI opening the batting and keeping wicket.

Adrian Bell, middle order bat and spin bowler, Neil Spiers genuine all rounder and Graeme Taylor a middle order bat have all joined Cregagh from Donaghadee.

We wish to take this opportunity to welcome them all to Cregagh and wish them success in the forthcoming season, and look forward to getting to know them better over the next 6 months!

Good luck lads.

Youth Section Equipment

The Under 15s are very short of batting gloves for the 2009 season.

If any senior player has old gloves that they are no longer using can they let Stuart Catterson know.

Any other surplus gear is always welcomed by the youth coaches.
