Cregagh appeal NCU decision

We have been advised that the NCU Competitions Committee has decided to void the recent 3rd XI game against Derriaghy 4ths which we won by 9 wickets. The reason given is that the game was not re-arranged or played within the required 29 days. As is stands we have been moved to third place and out of the promotion spot. The committee believes the NCU decision to be incorrect and an appeal has been submitted. Further information will follow when the result of the appeal is known.

3rds Secure promotion on last day of the season

So the 3rds took to the field on Saturday knowing a win would take them to a 2nd place finish and promotion.

Nothing was taken for granted however and Skipper Pinky took a "if it ain't broke..." attitude to the match and after winning the toss, elected to, as is now customary, have a bowl.

In fairness, 'Cloney made a good start and it wasn't until James Hume's 14 dot  balls in a row and then double wicket maiden which afforded the Cregagh lads the confidence to know the game was there to be won.

'Cloney's innings subsequently stuttered to 96 for 9 off 25 overs and the target was set.

Complacency was out of the question as Adam McCormick and Stuart Nelson set out to bring the game home. A measured and cautious approach was needed on an uneven wicket and the lads proved up to the task until Adam fell to a peach of a delivery and James Hume also succumbed a few balls later. Crisis was averted however as Vice Captain Stuart Catterson took to the field and supported Mr Nelson who hit yet another unbeaten half century. It was fitting though that the winning runs were dispatched to the boundary by Stuart The Elder with 8 balls to go.
League 7 now beckons for the 3rds and another crack at Downpatrick!!
