Busy night!!

Last night we had our highest numbers yet with 28 under 9s and 15 under 11s attending training last night.

Great to see such a turnout and great to have our coaching numbers boosted with Adam McCormick, James Hume and Mark Johnston all coaching the next generation.  Not forgetting coach Dougie of course.  Cheers lads!!!

Skipper Nelson & Vice Skipper Hume!!!

We are delighted to announce that for the upcoming Interpro Under 15 matches that our very own Stuart Nelson will the captain of the NCU Under 15 team.

Stuart is currently in great from following a 55 not out on Friday night and a beautiful innings of 62 on Saturday for the 1st XI.

In addition to this, we are delighted to confirm that James Hume will be his Vice Captain.  James has been in great from with bat and ball and has established himself in the 1st XI this season, with some great swing bowling.

A great achievement for both lads and for the club to have two Cregagh lads leading the NCU Under 15 team.

As a footnote, this verifies the opinion of their coach David McCormick, who has allowed the boys to captain their own teams on the field as this is our second representative player to captain the team with Mark Johnston a former NCU Under 15 captain.

As a further footnote this is the only half decent photo I have of James!

Under 15 Inter-Pro Update

It has now been confirmed that we will be hosting the Leinster CU v Southern XI inter-provincial game on Monday 30th June with a 12.00 noon start. This is quite an honour for the club as the other grounds being used are all NCU Premier League grounds. We will need volunteers to get the ground ready in advance of the 30th plus on the day itself. If you help please let Stuart Catterson know on 07720414155.

Nice article in the Newsletter regarding our upcoming tour of Slovenia, our reputation knows no bounds!!!

What a weekend!!!

4 games, 4 wins and to put that into perspective we had 13 players unavailable for selection for a whole host of reasons.
Adam McCormick bowling for the 1sts against Cooke

The 1st XI continued their good form by defeating Cooke Collegians in the Junior Cup to set up a quarter final tie against North Down 2nds.  Leon Moore led with the bat with 47 not out, whilst skipper Graeme Hassard took 3 wickets.  Adam McCormick and James Hume also chipped in with 2 wickets each to bowl Cooke Collegians out for 83!!!

Skipper clearly delighted at our 100% start
James Hume celebrates another wicket
Meanwhile, in Lurgan, the 2nds had been bowled out for 81 against Waringstown 3rds in the Intermediate cup.  Not deterred and making his debut as a captain standing in for Bob, our version of Mel Gibson a young Sam Grant marshaled his troops, and with VC Thompson Dawson his usual snarling self with the ball he took 4 early wickets.  Dangerous Dave in a similar vein to TD starting to take wickets, however at 9 wickets down for only 66 runs the tail started to wag.

With Waringstown on 80 runs and only needing 2 to win with about 12 overs spare Dangerous struck again to wrap up a win by 1 run and set up a quarter final match at home versus Ballymena 2nds.

The following day the 1sts were at home again in a rearranged game against Dunmurry, and when the rain finally stopped we got underway.  The mainstay of the innings was two knocks, a 52 from Stuart Nelson and a 61 from Alan Baker, set Dunmurry a total of 153 in 20 overs.

Dunmurry started well and were just behind the run rate with 8 overs gone, however, wickets were falling at regular intervals and eventually they were all out for 90 odd and the 1sts had maintained their 100% start to the season.  Again the wickets were shared round, Leon, Graeme, Adam, James and Stuart continued to bowl effectively as a unit.

The second game of the day saw the thirds head to Downpatrick to play against Downpatrick 3rd XI.  This time it is was the turn of Copey Copeland to take 4 wickets, Sam Grant claimed 3 and the evergreen Stuart Catterson taking 2 wickets to reduce them to 56 all out.  The thirds knocked this off with the loss of 1 wicket.
Copey Copeland claims 4 wickets

So there we have it, 4 games, 4 wins, 2 quarter finals and the 1st XI still unbeaten!!!
