End of Season Dinner Statement

With less than a month away, it's now time to get your special booking in place for Cregagh Cricket Club's End of the Year Champions Dinner which takes place at Cregagh Cricket Club on Saturday 27th September at 7pm sharp.

There's an emphasis on celebration at the event with particular consideration for the First XI's League success in Senior 3, and the Under 15's success in the glorious Graham Cup.

The committee have discussed at length the format of the evening and it promises to be one of the most exciting End of Season dinners of all time with several twists and surprises occurring along the way.

The typical award ceremony will follow the conclusion of the meal which of course includes the Harry Blair Memorial Clubman of the Year, The Performance of the Season, and the Stuart McCormick Young Player of the Year. The ceremony will conclude via a very special guest performance, not to be missed. After the ceremony the DJ will be rolling back the years starting the Disco in the 70's and moving on through the decades.

The committee have also upgraded the menu to an improved four course meal in light of the anticipated momentous occasion. The dining tables will be named after championship winning Cregagh teams from the 1970's onwards so make sure to get your booking early through Chairman Philip Thompson on 07748 354216 to guarantee your spot on the table plan. The ticket prices have remained the same as previous years despite an increase in quality catering and entertainment, £20 per adult and £15 per child, (under 18).

This is the event on the calendar that everybody looks forward to so with only limited space available, get your place booked now to avoid much disappointed. Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis. The committee are very much looking forward to seeing you all there.

Under 11 & Under 9 Presentations

Z. Toor Batsman of the year
Last Monday nigth we brought our Under 9s and Under 11s season to a close.  Both age groups played one last game of kwik cricket before going inside to receive the awards for their hard work this year.

Our under 9s all received a Cregagh Medal for taking part in a full summer programme of kwik cricket.  We use this section of the club to introduce people to cricket for the first time and once they get to a certain level we start to move them up into the under 11 section.

The under 11 section is different as they play competitive games, and this year with such a young team we were delighted to reach the semi final of the league following a 2nd place finish in the league.  On the night we were defeated by the eventual overall winners Dundrum who were a very strong side indeed.

J. Archer Bowler of the year

As always the under 11 section have 3 awards, batsman of the year, bowler of the year and Coach's pick.  This year, our batsman of the year was Zohaib Toor.  This will be Zohaib's last year with the 11s and he has consistently scored runs at the top of the order as well as take wickets, not to mention his stunning one hand catch against Templepatrick.

Joshua Archer received the Under 11 bowler of the year award taking 7 wickets in total.  Josh also opened the batting this year scoring some vital runs and always gives his all in the field.  Joshua will be able to play one more season with the Under 11s and surely the next captain!!!!

Finally, we came to the coach's award.  This year myself and Tony agreed it was so close between Daniel Henry and Noah Kelly that we decided to give them both an award.  Noah had scored slightly more runs than Daniel however, Daniel had taken a wicket.  Therefore we
N Kelly Coach's Pick
presented them both with an award, a very pleasing achievement for myself and Tony as both lads came through our under 9 programme from last year.
Finally I want to thank our coaches, Tony Henry, Bob Moore, Adam McCormick, James Hume, Mark Johnston, Matthew Fleetham and of course Dougie who took our Under 9s this year.  In addition to this I want to thank Laura Watt our registration secretary, Bobby Fleetham our Fixture Secretary and Lyndsey Hume who I am informed was Tony's match secretary as our Tony isn't great with technology lol!!!!  Also thanks to our 1st XI Skipper who came along on the night to make the presentations.
D. Henry Coach's pick
See you all next year lads and remember to keep practising like all the coaches said you can practice playing cricket anywhere!!!!  Roll on 2015.

All Ireland Semi Final

Graham Cup with 2 new friends
With the Graham Cup secured our Under 15s don't have much time to dwell on the win as they face Bready tomorrow afternoon in the semi-final of the all Ireland competition.

The game tomorrow is a 40 over match and will start at 1 pm as we once again go head to head with one of the major cricketing forces in North West Cricket.

Bready are based just south of Londonderry with 5 senior teams and junior teams from under 11s to under 19s and a ladies team.  They certainly have an extremely impressive set up not to mention their enviable facilities.

None the less the wee ducks will give of their best, our own boys are now viewed amongst one of the best teams in their age group in the NCU, and rightly so, you only needed to see the reaction of the Academy Colts team defeating our boys on Friday night to realise that Cregagh youth teams are a big scalp these days!!

Should we progress YMCA await the winners with the final to be played in Dublin.  Good luck lads, come on the wee Ducks!!!!  DONT GET BOGGED DOWN!!!!!!

Graham Cup Final

To say there is a buzz about Cregagh at the minute would be an understatement with the Graham Cup Final taking place at Holywood tomorrow where we will play against a strong CSNI team.

We all would like to wish the team and the coaches well for the big day, the club as a whole are very proud of you and no matter what the result to reach back to back finals has been a great effort.  Go and enjoy your day you all deserve it for the hard work you have all put in during the winter nets and of course during the current season.

Of course we won it for the first time in 1956 and again in 1970, however in a Question of Sport type mystery guest, can anyone spot a current player in the 1970 photo????

Cregagh CC remembers

Today marks the 100 anniversary of the commencement of the first world war.

At that time over 70% of our playing membership volunteered to fight for King and country with 9 members never to return home making the ultimate sacrifice.

At the end of the war the remaining players of Cregagh took it upon themselves to establish Cregagh within the NCU and to purchase the cricket ground in their honour.  The committee at the time included William McFadzean's father whose son had been awarded the Victoria Cross on the 1st July 1916 at the battle of the Somme.

We still play on that very ground in their honour and lest we forget their sacrifice.
