Stuart Nelson receives Ulster Bank award

During the 1st XI's last home game of the season against PSNI Stuart Nelson ripped through the middle order of the PSNI to produce the incredible figures of 6 wickets for 2 runs, just missing out on a hattrick in one over.

An incredible piece of bowling Stuart finally got that slower ball working ;-)  In taking 6 wickets Stuart was rewarded by winning one of the Ulster Bank monthly awards and was presented with his trophy along with his Father.

Well done Stuart another trophy to cap off an incredible season.

Under 13 & Under 15 Presentation Night

A. Nelson Batsman & Bowler of the year
On Friday 29th August we held our end of season awards night for our under 13s and under 15s season.  With the Graham Cup in attendance we had plenty to celebrate.

First up Graham Watt provided a brief review of the under 13 season, in total we played 6 games however it should be said a large number of under 13 players also played in a large number of under 15 games ensuring that we all got plenty of cricket during the season.

It was a tough season for the under 13s however we recorded a great win against Ards and managed to fight hard in our remaining games. Moving on to our award winners for the evening, skipper Andrew Nelson won both the batsman of the year and bowler of the year trophies to cap off a great season for the youngman.
Not an easy job Andrew is already showing signs of the makings a great captain, opening the batting and opening the bowling he never let his side down.  Finally, a popular winner of the Coach's pick award was Conor Irvine. Conor is always available for selection, he has contributed with taking wickets this year and his attitude at training is second to none. Conor has now worked hard on remodelling his action to become an off spin bowler and listens to all his coaches. Keep up the good work mate.

David Harris then reviewed the Under 15 season, which to be fair wasn't too bad!!!  Obviously a lot of the focus was on the amazing Graham Cup run.  Fair to say that emotions were still raw and a tear or two had been shed but eveyone will remember that day in August when we finally got our hands on the Graham Cup.  The team were incredible on the day and were led expertly by the captain Stuart Nelson.  Matthew Tumlinson was named as the man of the match and he received a special Ireland shirt from the NCU.

David Harris provided a great review of the season in his own special style!!  offering a unique insight into our under 15s and what a coach goes through during the season.  The under 15s compete in the top league for their age group against much larger academies and against most of the Premier League Clubs but held their own and performed well in the league.

In terms of the prize winners, Stuart Nelson was named as the under 15 batsman of the year with over 400 runs a staggering return from Stuart in a season I am sure he wont forget.  The bowler of the year went to Daniel Martin our wicket keeper.  Yes in true Cregagh style our wicket keeper was also the leading wicket taker.  Daniel performed well with both ball and gloves, and bat for that matter and we had a number of bowlers in the hunt for the award however Daniel just nipped in.  Finally, the coach's pick went to James Hume for his all round display with bat and ball and easily now viewed as the best fielder in the club.  Not only that, but James opening spell of bowling in the Graham Cup final set the team up for a great win.

In addition to this, we had two special trophies to acknowledge two special performances.  Stuart Nelson's 100 not out against Lurgan was an incredible innings to watch.
Lurgan had inflicted a heavy league defeat on us the week before, however, in the Graham Cup maybe the guys had a point to prove and put Lurgan to the sword with the skipper leading from the front with an explosive 100 not out.

In similar vein, the semi final against Carrick was arguably one of our toughest games of the season and although we had set a great total, Carrick were going to come close.  The stage was set for our wicket taker to throw the gloves aside and take the ball, and Daniel's hattrick in the semi final will live long in the memory.  Daniel recieved the ball mounted as a keepsake and Stuart received a special trophy marking his century.

Finally, we ended with the Stuart McCormick memorial Young Cricketer of the year award kindly sponsored by Kerr Consulting.  This year it was an easy vote for the committee, the young man in question had scored over 400 runs, he also chipped in with wickets, a regular in the 1st XI, he captained his team to the Graham Cup, he captained the NCU Under 15 team and to cap off his season he was selected to play for Ireland.  Not a bad season mate, young cricketer of the year was awarded to Stuart Nelson.

The night was capped off with everyone throwing ice buckets over the under 15 coach before retiring to the bar, and it was great to see so many people staying behind, thats what makes us special.

Well done everyone and we will see you next year, and just in case you have been living under a rock CREGAGH CC UNDER 15s ARE THE 2014 GRAHAM CUP WINNERS!!!!!

PS Stuart we managed to fix the trophy tell your Dad there is an invoice behind the bar!!
