Junior Presentation Awards Night

Friday past we held our annual end of season junior awards night at the club.  It was great to see such a great turn out of players and parents attend the evening.

The evening was opened by the Youth Chairman Graham Watt who welcomed everyone along and proceeded to give an overview of what has to be one of the busiest years the junior section has ever embarked upon.

The highlights included a cricket factory day held at Avoniel Leisure centre in conjunction with Cricket Ireland and two local primary schools, those being Orangefield and Harding Memorial.  This led up to an 8 week coaching programme again in conjunction with Cricket Ireland.

We sent 5 coaches  (David McCormick, Adam McCormick, Tony Henry, Robert Moore and Carl Rae) into 5 local primary schools, namely, Cairnshill, Loughview Intergrated, Harding Memorial, Cregagh and Euston Street.  Each week a coach would go into the school and take an hours kwik cricket.  This then led to a kwik cricket tournament at our ground in early May which seen Cairnshill winning the tournament.

Once again, our coaches went above and beyond their duty to ensure the whole programme was the success that it was.  Work had also begun on the summer scheme and once again the youth chairman thanked all the coaches who made this such a success along with Stuart Catterson our very own grant guru!  Once again the committee worked extremely well as a team to deliver such a great summer scheme with special thanks to the support provided by Belfast City Council.

Moving onto the teams for the 2016 season, again the chairman expressed his thanks to all the coaches you have taken teams this year, Ian Kerr and David Harris with the under 15's, Robert Moore and Matthew Simpson with the under 13's and of course Tony Henry and Carl Rae with the under 11's and under 9's.  In addition to this our fixture secretary who keeps us all on track and Stuart Catterson our grounds convenor ensuring the ground is always in tip top condition.

Finally, our junior secretary Laura Watt who kept me right during the season with registration forms, summer scheme applications, subs and everything else.  Once again we would be lost without our off the field support team.

Tony Henry our under 11 coach then provided a short review of the season, the winners of the under 11 section where as follows;

Under 11 batsman of the year;  Daniel Henry
Under 11 bowler of the year; Daniel Henry

Daniel Henry receiving his award who had an excellent season with bat and ball
Under 11 coaches pick; M Rae
The Skipper (Matt Rae) receiving his award after another great season with bat and ball and now leading the side.

Moving onto the under 15s, David Harris took us through the season and the outstanding performances during the year.  The winners were as follow

Under 15 batsman of the year;  Andy Nelson
Under 15 bowler of the year;  Andy Nelson

Another great season for this young man with bat and ball, he led the team by example this year

Under 15 coaches pick; Jack Keenan
Jack showed massive improvement this year and continues to grow in confidence well done the hard work is paying off

Finally, our young player of the year award which is sponsored by Ian Kerr from Kerr Consulting was awarded to Andy Nelson.  Andy had a great all round performance this year, he scored just under 200 runs, taking 10 wickets with the ball and captained the team, setting his own field, setting his batting order and making his own decisions in the field.  Well done Andy and a very deserving winner of the young player of the year award.
