Statement on behalf of Cregagh CC

On behalf of the committee of Cregagh Cricket Club, and following social media reports at the weekend, we can confirm that Stuart Nelson has informed the club secretary that he wishes to transfer to North Down Cricket Club. Stuart has spoken of what a difficult and emotional decision this was for him to leave his many friends at Cregagh CC.

Stuart Nelson has been with our club since he was 9 years old, and immediately demonstrated a natural aptitude for the game of cricket.  Under the excellent tutelage of his coach David McCormick, Stuart came through the ranks of Cregagh with a number of extremely talented young cricketers, all of whom we are extremely proud.  In recent years the rise of our 1st XI squad is down to this exceptional group of young talented cricketers, with Stuart being a vital part of that team.

At Cregagh CC, from an early age, Stuart regularly played his part in the clubs successes on the field. This culminated in our u15 squad securing the coveted Graham Cup in 2014, a team which was led by Stuart Nelson.  This led to Stuart being recognised at representative cricket level many times for a number of NCU regional squads. Our club was always proud to have Stuart represent Cregagh CC.  Last season Stuart led the NCU team to a famous Inter-Provincial win for the Under 17 team in Leinster.  Stuart has also received Ireland international honours at u15. Typical of the type of young man he is, he donated one of his Ireland jumpers to the cricket club as a thank you for all the support during the years.

We appreciate how talented and ambitious Stuart is and everyone at Cregagh CC wish him well in his cricketing journey and look forward to him achieving his goals. We will all be cheering him on.

It is well known that at Cregagh CC we pride ourselves on being a welcoming family club with a tremendous team spirit throughout the whole club, the bond and friendship that we all share has been forged over many years.  We all know at certain times we need to go our separate ways for a variety of reasons, however that special bond that we all have as Cregagh players runs strong in us all. Perhaps, one day, Stuart Nelson will once again wear our proud colours.

Stuart, the committee and everyone within the club wish you well on your next adventure, a challenge we all believe you will meet head on and at which you will no doubt succeed. We are all extremely proud of you and look forward to seeing you about the club in the 2017 season.  Good luck in the Premier League.
