Junior Awards Presentation

Under 11 Batsman and Bowler of the year Daniel Henry
On Friday 1st September, the Junior Section held its annual awards presentation evening at the clubhouse.  It was great to see such a turnout of players and Parents from across all 4 age groups the Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s and the Under 15s.

Each head coach for each age group provided the attendees with a review of how the teams performed in 2017.  In summary, the under 9s continue to offer an introduction to cricket and kwik cricket and this year was overseen by one of our new coaches Neil Pinkerton.  Neil has been an instant hit with the kids and certainly keeps them busy on a Monday night.

The Under 11s continued to progress, albeit that over the last 2 seasons we have seen 10 players move from under 11s to under 13s which is great progress.  The aim of Under 11 cricket is to give the guys a taste of hard ball cricket.  This year we were delighted to see several girls taking part and contributing well in games.  A special mention must go to Daniel Henry who was voted by the clubs coaches as the winner of the Junior Section Stewart McCormick Memorial Young Player of the year Award.  His contribution to both under 11 and under 13 teams taking wickets and scoring runs, plus his performance in the NCU Under 11 squad this year has been incredible.  Without doubt this young lad has a bright future in the game.  As a side note, we believe he is the youngest player to win this award.

The under 13s had a great season and narrowly missed out on a semi-final place in the league competition.  Many of the 13s squad also played up and represented the Under 15 team with distinction.

After the season reviews from the coaches we then announced the award winners of each age group.  As in previous years we have 3 categories.  Batsman of the year, Bowler of the year and a Coaches Pick award.

The winners for 2017 were as follows;

Under 11 Coaches Pick Alastair Watt
Junior Section Stewart McCormick Memorial Young Player of the year Daniel Henry

Max Shannon Under 13 Bowler of the year

Noah Kelly Under 13 Coaches Pick

Rory Jannsen Under 13 Batsman of the year

Zohaib Toor Under 15 Bowler of the year
Max Shannon Under 15 Batsman of the year

Noah Kelly Under 15 Coaches Pick
On the night we had 2 final special awards.  David Harris our Under 15 coach for the last 4 seasons is stepping down due to health issues.  As a thank you for his wonderful service over the time the club obtained a print of the winning Graham Cup team from 2014 and presented this to him.  A great achievement that will live long in the memory for both David and the club.

I can speak on behalf of the players, parents and the club as a whole that we will miss you David and the endless hours of work that you devoted to the club and the boys.

The final award on the night went to a special Lady who was attending her 10th Junior Presentation night, itself an achievement lol!!!!  We couldn't let that pass so a special little medal for the one and only Pamela Nelson.
